How to Find a Hospital With a Good Hair Transplant

Hair transplants have come a long way since the days of the large hair plugs that many men received in the ’90s and ’00s. Thanks to technological advancements and continued research, today’s hair restoration procedures look very natural, especially when done by a surgeon who understands the art of the procedure.

GQ reached out to two reputable experts—Ken Washenik, M.D., a hair expert who advises guys nationwide for Hair Club and its sister company Bosley Medical Group, and Serkan Agyin, M.D., a doctor who specializes in Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair restoration surgery and operates in Istanbul, Turkey—to get their top tips for finding a hospital with a good hair transplant.

A good hair transplantation procedure is essentially hair redistribution, and it can take place either in a physician’s office or in a clinic. During the procedure, the surgeon numbs the scalp, removes a narrow strip of hair from the back or side of the head, and then divides it carefully into small “micro” grafts for redistribution to areas on the head that need more density. This approach, known as follicular unit transplantation, leaves no linear scar on the back of the head and allows for quick recovery. 여성헤어라인

When you’re choosing a physician, ask to see a minimum of 10 sets of before-and-after photos—taken at the same angle and under the same lighting so you can honestly compare results. Also, ask for pictures of donor scars, which will help you determine whether the surgeon has experience with FUE hair transplantation techniques, and if so, what the surgical results look like.

Another important factor to consider is the size of your surgical team. Some surgeons operate solo, but most have dedicated teams of assistants and technicians to help them during the procedure.

Ideally, your surgeon and his or her team should have worked together for a long time, so they are well acquainted with each other’s methods. Moreover, ask if all the technicians use stereo-microscopes to dissect each follicular unit—a crucial step in ensuring that you’re getting the best possible results.

Finally, ask how long the physician has been using ARTAS, which is one of the most advanced systems for automated micro-graft dissection, to improve follicular unit extraction efficiency and ensure that only strong and healthy hair follicles are used. This can make a significant difference in your results and overall experience.

The cost of a hair transplant can vary widely, depending on where you live, the surgeon’s expertise and reputation, the technique or equipment being used, and more. However, it’s not unreasonable to expect a quality result for around $13,000, which is the national average. You can find even lower costs by traveling to overseas or to a specialty hair clinic in the U.S. 압구정 모발이식 잘하는 곳

In Turkey, for example, you can get a quality transplant for about $2,700. (More on that below.) Still, some doctors charge much more than that—and their patients often don’t know what they’re paying for.
